- Preserved vegetation
Background
Preservation of existing on-site vegetation retains values such as wildlife habitat, soil integrity and shading. Vegetation that is preserved is already established and is able to survive without irrigation. Also, these areas reduce overall irrigation demand and stormwater runoff.
Requirements and certification
A percentage of the lot remains undisturbed and in a natural state with no supplemental irrigation.
Percent of Lot Preserved | Silver | Gold | Commercial/Institutional |
---|---|---|---|
30 or more | NA | 15 points | NA |
20 or more | NA | 10 points | NA |
10 or more | NA | 5 points | NA |
These points pertain only to vegetation on the applicant’s lot, and any vegetation set aside as part of an easement or other undeveloped area is ineligible for credit.
Preserved Vegetation Point Calculation |
---|
(total preserved vegetation area ÷ total lot area) × 100 = percent of lot preserved |
The Inspector must confirm the amount of preserved area during the site inspection and measure the preserved area to determine the percentage in doubt.
